First the horn specimens are carefully selected and checked for absolute perfection before being compressed into paper-thin sheets that comprise the layers of each frame. Horn’s natural color palette ranges from warm grey and anthracite tones to rich shades of brown and even vibrant white. We employ the use of natural vegetable dyes to realize custom colors and combine multiple finishing techniques on a single frame to achieve extraordinary textural contrast. Our craftsmen then layer between eight and eighteen layers of buffalo horn to build dimension and resilience. The frames take shape as artisans begin to sculpt, each stroke of the file exposes another layer of horn, revealing the textures, shapes and patterns that are the hallmark of buffalo horn. Finely tuned titanium spring hinges provide maximum flexibility while maintaining alignment, ensuring the consistent fit and enduring shape of the frame over time.
